Inmate dies at the Wake County Detention Center; SBI, Wake Sheriff investigating

McClain died at the Wake County Detention Center, prompting an investigation by the SBI and the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

An inmate died Monday afternoon in the Wake County Detention Center.

According to the Wake County Sheriff's Office, detention officers discovered 19-year-old Da'Marious McClain unresponsive in his cell at 3:05 p.m.

Detention officers and medical staff immediately started CPR on McClain, with fire and EMS crews providing aid. Despite medical efforts, McClain died.

McClain's cause of death are currently unknown.

The Wake County Sheriff has asked the State Bureau of Investigation to investigate, which the Sheriff says is protocol for an in-custody death. The SBI will provide their findings to the Wake County District Attorney.

The Sheriff's Office said it will be conducting its own internal investigation.
