The Full Frame Documentary Film Festival wrapped up its 16th annual event in Durham on Sunday with several independent films winning awards.

Top honors went to "American Promise," a film that follows the directors' son and his best friend from kindergarten through high school graduation and how their lives diverge.

"By Her Side" was awarded Best Short. The film features three expectant fathers who share about their hopes, dreams and anxieties as they wait for the birth of their children.

"A Will for the Woods," which won an audience award for Feature, explores the green burial movement and focuses on one man's quest for a final resting place that will do no harm to the earth.

More than 100 films were featured at this year's festival. A complete list of winners is available on Full Frame's website.
