1-95 reopens after tanker crash shuts down highway for nearly 12 hours

A large portion of Interstate 95 reopened Friday morning after an overnight closure due to a tanker truck crashing near Fayetteville.

The crash happened Thursday around 6:30 p.m. when an oil tanker crashed and overturned near Fayetteville.

All lanes of I-95 South were closed at Exit 41 and NC Highway 59/Chicken Foot Road in Hope Mills. All lanes of I-95 North were also closed at Exit 33 and U.S. Highway 301 in Saint Pauls. The interstate was shut down for almost 12 hours.

The road reopened Friday just before 6 a.m.
