Three of four lanes on Interstate 440 West between the interchanges with Interstate 40 and Poole Road in Wake County will be closed over the weekend, the N.C. Department of Transportation said Friday.

The lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday.

In addition to those closures, the I-40 West exit ramp to I-440 West (the Outer Beltline) and the I-440 West exit ramp to Poole Road will be closed periodically throughout the weekend.

The closures are part of a project to resurface I-440, officials said.

Motorists traveling I-40 West who need to access I-440 West should detour by taking exit 300A (Rock Quarry Road) and then return to I-40 East/I-440.

Motorists traveling on I-440 West needing to access Poole Road should exit at 13A (New Bern Avenue) and return to I-440 (the Inner Beltline) at exit 15 (Poole Road).

Both detours will be noted with signs.

On Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., crews will be refreshing the pavement markings on the I-440 East between the interchanges with U.S. 64 and Poole Road.
