Here's who is running for Durham mayor, local elections in 2023
Filling for candidates in the 2023 local elections ended at noon Friday.
Eight people filed to run in the Durham mayoral race to replace outgoing Mayor Elaine O'Neal.
Durham's mayoral primary is nonpartisan and takes place on Oct. 10. The two mayoral candidates with the most votes face off in another election on Nov. 7.

Leonardo Williams and Freeman are current members of the Durham City Council.
State Sen. Mike Woodard, D-Durham County, is a former city council member.
Burruss is a community activity and pastor. Sylvester Williams is a retired financial analyst. Both people have run unsuccessfully for the seat in the past.

The top six finishers in the Oct. 10 primary election move on to the Nov. 7 election. Here's who is running:

Caballero and Holsey-Hyman are incumbent members of the Durham City Council.
Holsey-Hyman was under investigation on allegations she promised a vote to a developer in exchange for a campaign donation and she had a city staffer do campaign-related work. She says she's been bullied.
Rosenthal is the longtime deputy city attorney.
Wake County elections
The city of Raleigh now holds its city council elections in even-numbered years.
Cary elections
Incumbent Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht is running unopposed.
