A chain reaction crash closed most of Interstate 40 East at Exit 283 for Interstate 540 Thursday morning while heavy rain fell in the Triangle.
The crash occurred before 7 a.m. near RDU Airport. Four of the five lanes on I-40 East were closed at one point, and heavy delays were reported in the area. One driver was taken to WakeMed with minor injuries.
The road had reopened by 8 a.m.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area and stay off the roads in general while a band of heavy rain passes from the west to the east.
