'Hamilton' to return to DPAC

The Broadway smash Hamilton will return to Durham Performing Arts Center, the venue announced Monday.

DPAC members who renew for the 2020-2021 season will get first priority to purchase tickets for the musical, according to the theater. Dates for the show and individual ticket on sale information will be announced at a later time.

"Hamilton" tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington's right-hand man during the Revolutionary War. The musical is known for its hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B and Broadway music.

Tickets for the smash-hit musical, which first opened at DPAC in November 2018 and ran through Dec. 2, quickly sold out in August and ranged in price from $78 to $400 In October, a lottery was announced, giving "Hamilton" fans a chance to win $10 tickets to each show of the season.

"It was a huge success from 2018 and just one of our biggest shows over the past 10 years, and we’re just really excited it’s returning so that theater fans not only around the Triangle, but around the state, will have the chance to see it again. And for some of those fans who didn’t see it the first time, now they have the opportunity," DPAC Senior Director of Marketing Rachel Traversari said.

DPAC had already announced shows for their 2019-2020 season, which included "Mean Girls" and "Aladdin."
