On Saturday, people came together to honor the life of Hailey Brooks in Fuquay-Varina.

A truck hit and killed the 11-year-old while she was performing with her dance company during the Raleigh Christmas Parade last November.

Fuquay-Varina Duck Duck Jeep honored Brooks during their second annual Family Fun Day Saturday. The association decided to honor Hailey and promote the Shine Like Hailey Foundation.

Duck Duck Jeep created car decals featuring a dancer with angel wings and a halo to raise money for the foundation.

The group later present the Brooks family with a check for $500.

“It just really hit us that she does have ties here to Fuquay,” said one organizer. “We just wanted to do something to support her family.”

Raleigh’s Christmas Parade takes place on November 18, but the City of Raleigh opted to not have motorized cars or floats out of respect for the Brooks family and caution for attendees.
