A Guilford County Sheriff's deputy was fired after he was arrested and charged following an investigation in Davidson County.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office said deputy Steven Surratt was fired Friday. He was arrested in mid-September for eight counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor following an investigation by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.

The sheriff's office said under the violation a person allegedly commits the offense of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor if, knowing the character or content of the material, he possesses material that contains a visual representation of a minor engaging in sexual activity.

The sheriff's office said the violations allegedly occurred in Davidson County in December 2021.
