Two rivals meeting in the state playoffs lifts the rivalry to a new level, but two rivals playing for a state championship is on a level all by itself.

That's what happened last fall for Green Hope and Panther Creek. The two volleyball teams met in the 4A volleyball state championship game, which was named the winner for Story of the Year at HighSchoolOT Honors.

Green Hope swept the match in straight sets to win the 4A state championship for the third straight season. The Falcons became the first volleyball program to ever achieve such a feat at the 4A level.

The meeting between the two teams also marked the first time two Wake County schools have met in a team state championship.

The Falcons opened the match with a 25-15 win in the first set, then another 25-15 win in the second set. Green Hope won the third set 25-18 to claim the match.
