Grandma's tip leads Goldsboro police to gun stolen at school

A grandmother's tip led Goldsboro police to confiscate a firearm that one student had brought to school and then another student had stolen, authorities said.

Investigators determined that Jonathan Sean Davis brought the gun to school, and then Johnnie Lee Sutton III stole it while still at school on April 11, police said. A report from Davis' grandmother prompted the investigation.

Sutton, 18, of 411 Hollowell Ave., was arrested Monday on charges of larceny of a firearm and possession of a weapon on educational property. He was placed in the Wayne County jail under a $3,000 unsecured bond.

Davis, 18, of 621 Poplar St., was charged on April with possession of a weapon on educational property. He was released into the custody of his grandmother.
