Some graduating seniors across the country are turning their graduation garb into protective gowns for health care workers.

The initiative, called Gowns 4 Good, started in Minnesota and encourages graduates to donate their robes to health workers. Breck School, a K-12 school in Golden Valley, is among the first to participate.

The high school seniors who didn't get to attend their graduations ceremonies due to the pandemic are keeping their caps but donating their gowns.

According to a Facebook event, the school will host a drive-thru collection event on Saturday to collect and repurpose the robes. When worn backwards, with the zippered opening in the back, gradation robes are an effective alternative to personal protective equipment (PPE), according to Gowns 4 Good.
