Governor's Mansion opens gardens to public

The gardens of the Governor’s Mansion will be open to the public from noon to 3 p.m. on April 12, marking an official spring welcome after a long winter battered the state.

The garden will be open to self-guided tours, with docents available to answer questions about the grounds. No reservations are necessary.

The Victorian-style mansion dates back to 1891, but the gardens in their current state are relatively young, containing both native and exotic plant species, a koi pond, bee hives and a large vegetable garden.

“Pat and I are honored to live in such an exquisite historic home,” first lady Ann McCrory said in a statement. “We welcome everyone who can make the trip to come over and take in the beauty of the gardens. Bring your family and friends to celebrate spring in North Carolina.”
