A missing adoptable kitten has been returned safely to a Raleigh animal rescue group Tuesday after going missing over the weekend.

The Cause for Paws announced that Rummy, a 10-week-old orange tabby, was returned to the North Market Store safe and unharmed.

The group issued a social media alert Saturday seeking assistance in locating two women believed to be the last individuals to interact with and hold Rummy before the kitten went missing.

The women visited the store on Saturday between 4:15 and 4:40 p.m. The women played with the kitten together then left the store separately, according to staff. No one saw either of them walk away with the kitten.

About 30 minutes after the women left, a volunteer noticed the cat was missing.

"It's very, very dire that she's brought back here," said staff member Mikaya Yates, who says the orange tabby was recovering from worms and needs medical care.

She's heartbroken by the situation.

Store manager Lor Carter says she’s gone through this surveillance video that shows two people playing with Rummy at about 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Carter says the animals are supposed to be returned either to a staff member or their cages. She simply says that did not happen. Store video does not show the girls holding the kitten when they leave the store.

Rummy already had interest to be potentially adopted. She had only been at the rescue less than two weeks.
