Goldsboro restaurant owner feeds hospital employees

A Goldsboro restaurant owner helped feed 450 local healthcare workers on Easter Sunday.

Matt Crawford, who owns and operates Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes and Fries on Wayne Memorial Drive, came up with the idea to feed workers at Wayne UNC Health Care. He worked with the Hwy 55 corporate office in Mount Olive to come up with a plan to serve all doctors, nurses and staff a hot meal.

"They really wanted to help those working on the front lines," Hwy 55 spokesperson Nick Adams said.

Crawford worked with Hwy 55 locations, including Princeton and Pikeville, to provide the meals, each of which contained a cheeseburger, chips, brownie and tea or lemonade.

Handmade face masks, sewn by a group of local women, were also included in the lunch bags.

Hospital workers weren't the only ones fed over the weekend.

"Some of Matt's guests were so moved by it. They wanted to help. So, they donated money," Adams said.

That money was used to help feed all of the Goldsboro area fire stations on Saturday.
