Whereas, the Infant Optics Dxr-8 is an award-winning, non-wifi video monitor available at a reasonable price; and

Whereas, I recently enjoyed a post-Christmas vacation with my brother-in-law and his family, including their one-year-old son; and

Whereas, this little one provided great delight after supper by shuffling along like an old man, hunched over with a look of concentration on his face; and

Whereas, this exertion of effort caused our little fella to go off to bed “plum tuckered out” as his elders put it; and

Whereas, this video monitor afforded peace of mind by guaranteeing that his parents would learn of any distress for the diapered kiddo so that they might then swoop downstairs to nurse or change or cuddle; and

Whereas, I recognize that modern technology may well fool us into thinking we are “too big for our britches,” electronic devices might also give us new insight in the human condition; and

Whereas, if indeed I am lucky to live long enough, I will once again depend on others to watch over and assist me;

Be it therefore resolved that, on behalf of my entire extended family, I highly commend and thank this baby monitor:

1. for allowing merry-making adults to enjoy one another’s company into the night;

2. for prompting the reflection upon the holy vulnerability of a loved one who is sound asleep; and

3. for gracing me with the privilege of hearing my young nephew’s deep sigh of contentment, which I shall remember henceforth.
