It’s one of 5 On Your Side’s most popular events: your chance to speak with an attorney for free!

It’s part of a decades long partnership between WRAL-TV and the North Carolina Bar Foundation for their Annual Day of Service.

Because of COVID, this years event will be virtual. Still, hundreds of attorneys across the state will answer calls.

And know, certain areas of law are getting a lot of calls, which is making wait times longer.

"It’s really fun. It’s fun. It’s such a great day to give back, " says bankruptcy attorney Rebecca Redwine.

She’ll work the phones, as will attorneys in all areas of law,including:

Attorneys say a key to getting the most our of your call, is to prepare for it.

"Think about the question that you’re going to ask before you call," says Redwine, "..because the attorneys are really supposed to answer one question, um, you know, to the extent that they certainly can and then, and then move on."

Redwine adds, have a pen and paper to take notes.

"In the years past, when I’ve volunteered,so many attorneys say I need to tell you something, can you jot it down?" She says too often the caller responds: "Hold on, hold on. Okay..so yes, have a pen, piece of paper handy."
