The Fuquay-Varina Police Department is investigating a road-rage incident Thursday where people in two cars were shooting at each other near Fuquay-Varina Elementary School.
Police said it happened at the intersection of Mill Creek Drive and Johnson Pond Road. Fuquay-Varina Elementary School is less than one-quarter of a mile north of the intersection.

Officers found several shell casings in the middle of the intersection.
Area businesses and homes have been checked for property damage. As of Thursday night police do not report any damage.
"We were on the way to school as normal, and suddenly my kid turns around and looks at me and is like mom did you just see what happened," Rebekah Nelson, Parent, Fuquay-Varina Elementary Student.
Rebekah Nelson’s 8 year old son saw was a person who pulled out a gun at the intersection.
However she didn’t believe it until Fuquay-Varina Elementary’s principal sent a letter to families confirming there had been a shooting but nobody was hurt.
"I instantly started crying," Nelson said. "My kid was right."
There was no current threat in the area, police said. Also, police said no schools or day care facilities were affected by the shooting.
"Please know that all students are safe and classes are operating normally," Fuquay-Varina Elementary School Principal Heather Johnson wrote in a letter to families.
Johnson wrote that the school called law enforcement around 9 a.m. Thursday.
"School administrators immediately contacted law enforcement, who reported that it was a road rage incident where gunshots were fired on a road just outside campus," Johnson wrote. "Law enforcement assured us that the suspect was not in the area and that there was no need for a lockdown."
Police have not announced any arrests as of Thursday night.
"Our school has been on lockdown a few times just because of people with guns in the vicinity or possible gunshots going off so to have this come up and actually be a true shooting that happened is just heart wrenching," said parent Rebekah Nelson.
Johnson said the school day resumed as normal after conversations with law enforcement.
"This message is to assure families that there was and is no threat to the school or anybody's safety," Johnson said.
Johnson said the school would take extra precautions Thursday with extra security and staff patrols.
