Sixteen Fuquay-Varina High School students won't be allowed to participate in their graduation ceremony Saturday following a senior prank, officials said Wednesday.

The incident involved toilet-papering the school's courtyard, covering door handles in peanut butter and writing obscenities around the school.

Michael Evans, spokesman for the Wake County Public School System, said district administrators stand behind the principal's decision to bar the students involved in the prank from graduation, calling the incident a case of vandalism.

Evans noted that the students could have been charged with trespassing and vandalism.

The mother of one of the students said she and other parents have asked the principal to reconsider and have offered to have the students do community service to make up for the prank if they are allowed to take part in graduation.
