Fayetteville residents have a new spot to enjoy delicious and healthy meals thanks to The Salad Box & Some, a black-owned restaurant offering a unique twist on salads and more.

Owned by Robb Barber and co-owner Tonya McNeal, The Salad Box & Some isn't just about the food; it's about creating a welcoming space for the community.

This restaurant, located at 132 Person St., goes beyond the typical salad joint. Their menu boasts fresh, made-to-order salads but also caters to diverse palates with tempting options like loaded baked potatoes, wings, shrimp and grits and juicy sandwiches.

"Our most popular items are the salmon bites and house fries," Barber said. "After that is the loaded potatoes, and our salads are popular because we have so many to choose from."

Barber says whether people are craving comfort food classics or seeking healthy options, their diverse menu offers something to satisfy everyone.

"Our goal is to provide a welcoming space for everyone," Barber said. "We've deliberately chosen not to have televisions in the restaurant to encourage conversation, connection and laughter, allowing customers to reconnect and enjoy the company they're with."

The interior, designed by Barber, features flowers, greenery and pops of color, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

"I had a vision with the decorations, with the flowers, grass, colors and a touch of graffiti to give a creative look to the place," Barber said.

Barber is proud to be part of Person Street's historic legacy of Black-owned businesses. He reflects on the significance of having his restaurant downtown Fayetteville, a dream he never thought possible.

"I'm always ecstatic and shocked that I am here," Barber said. "I have a restaurant in downtown Fayetteville, and I never thought I would be able to have anything down here."

Exciting things are in store for the future of the restaurant. They will be expanding their opening days to Sundays and introducing a selection of alcoholic beverages to their menu.

"People can come out enjoy food and also enjoy drinks like mimosas on Sundays," Barber said. "Like I said, we have something for everyone."

The Salad Box & Some is more than just a restaurant; it's a place to gather, savor delicious food and celebrate the heart of Fayetteville.

"We created a space where it doesn't matter what color you are, what race you are, or nationality; everyone is welcomed here," Barber said.
