The North Carolina Courage, the professional women's soccer team that opens its second season in Cary this year, is letting fans take in its preseason games for free.

In its first season, the team won 16 wins in the regular season and took home the National Women's Soccer League Shield, which is given to the team with the best regular season record in the league. For my soccer-loving family, including two soccer-loving girls, these games are so much fun to watch. We went to several last season and had a blast. This is great family entertainment - often held at super family-friendly times of day.

The team's preseason training starts this week. The preseason games begin this weekend. Here's the schedule:

  • Sunday, Feb 25: NC Courage vs. UNC-Chapel Hill, 11 a.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary
  • Thursday, March 1: NC Courage at NC State, 11:30 a.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium, Raleigh
  • Sunday, March 4: NC Courage vs. Tennessee, time TBA at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary
  • Sunday, March 11: NC Courage vs. Clemson, 3:30 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary
  • Tuesday, March 13: NC Courage vs. Wake Forest, 3 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park, Cary

These games are free and open to the public. More information is on the team's website.

The team also will play a game on March 17 against the Washington Spirit at City Stadium in Richmond. You'll need to get tickets for that one if you make the trek to Richmond.
