Free ice cream: Citywide ice cream social today in downtown Raleigh

A citywide ice cream social on Tuesday aims to raise $10,000 in four hours for The Salvation Army of Wake County.

People can stop by Raleigh City Plaza at 443 Fayetteville St. Tuesday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get a free scoop of Hershey's Ice Cream's legendary Moose Tracks ice cream. For every scoop eaten, Moose Tracks will donate $1 to The Salvation Army of Wake County.

Two flavors will be offered:

  • Original Moose Tracks Ice Cream: Moose Tracks Fudge and peanut butter cups swirled into vanilla ice cream
  • Banana PB Moose Tracks: Banana-flavored ice cream, peanut butter flakes and famous Moose Tracks fudge

There will be local celebrities at the event, including celebrity guest scoopers. Tracks, the Moose Tracks mascot, and representatives from Hershey's Ice Cream and The Salvation Army of Wake County will be on site.

A spokesperson for the event said scoopers will go through about 30 three-gallon tubs of ice cream to reach 10,000 scoops.

The ice cream is kept cold in ice cream dip cabinets that are wheeled out to the venue, similar to those in ice cream shops.
