Fort Bragg investigating 82nd Airborne paratrooper's death

Authorities at Fort Bragg are investigating the death of a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division who died over the weekend, the Army said Wednesday.

Spc. Robert P. Wasser, 21, of Marysville, Wash., was found unresponsive in his barracks Saturday morning and was later pronounced dead.

Fort Bragg officials offered no other details about Wasser's death.

Wasser joined the Army in April 2010 and was deployed to Afghanistan two months later. He returned in September 2010 and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne in October 2010.

He was a military police officer and was part of Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

"Spc. Wasser was a solid performer and (was) considered a brother by the members of his team," his commander, Sgt. Maj. Matthew McCoy, said in a statement. "Our military family will be deeply affected by his loss."
