Former Habitat for Humanity director charged with inappropriate sexual conduct

A former Habitat for Humanity director is accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a female inmate working for the program.

William Reid Mcauley Jr., 69, was charged Friday with sexual activity by a custodian. The offenses allegedly occurred between Aug. 4, 2008, and April 6 at the Habitat for Humanity offices at 1400 Raleigh Road.

The 29-year-old victim, an inmate at Fountain Correctional Center for Women, was on work release when the incident occurred.

A criminal investigation has been ongoing since June 1 by the Rocky Mount Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Division.
