Football moms feed hungry guys, much more

Being part of the Wake Forest-Rolesville High School Football Moms isn't just a fall sport.

It's a 12-month job for the moms who help to get the guys ready to play each year. The group supports the high school's successful junior varsity and varsity teams by raising money for scholarships; providing snacks; making pre-game meals for all 130 players plus coaches and trainers; and much more.

It's a lot of work. But president Lisa McLemore and Michelle Fingers, who will take the helm in January, tell me it's all worth it.

For one, it helps them keep that important connection with their high school sons.

And it's a close knit group. There's more laughter than you'd expect at their regular meetings, McLemore says.

"It is a sisterhood," she tells me.

As they headed into postseason play, I spoke with McLemore and Fingers about what they do. The job couldn't be done without all the moms (and dads) who help the group out and coach Reggie Lucas, who also is a former Cougar, they tell me.
