Foot chase nets suspect in 2008 Raleigh shooting

Tips from "N.C. Wanted" viewers helped capture a suspect Friday who likely fled to Mexico after the June 13, 2008, shooting death of 38-year-old Miguel Najara Martinez, Raleigh police said.

Tips from "N.C. Wanted" viewers helped capture a suspect Friday who likely fled to Mexico after the June 14, 2008, shooting death of 38-year-old Miguel Najara Martinez, Raleigh police said.

Martinez was found shot along Peyton Street, near Dacian Road, and police charged Erick Robles Mendoza, 29, with murder.

Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Mendoza remained at large for nearly a year, and investigators supect he went to Mexico. He was featured on "N.C. Wanted," which airs on WRAL's sister station, Fox50.

Raleigh police officials confirmed that a "credible tip" about Mendoza's whereabouts came through "NC Wanted's" hotline.

Officers caught Mendoza Friday afternoon after a foot pursuit in a wooded area off of South Wilmington Street.
