Fire engulfs school bus in Durham; 28 students and driver safe, no injuries reported

A school bus in Durham caught fire Friday afternoon near American Drive and White Pine Drive.

The Durham Fire Department was called at 2 p.m. to the scene to find a Durham County Public School bus engulfed in flames.

The bus driver and 28 students were all able to exit the bus safely before the fire spread.

Responding with 11 firefighters, the Durham Fire Department took about 15 minutes to control the fire.

The bus sustained significant damage.

Durham Public Schools, Durham Fire Department and Thomas Built Buses are all working on an investigation into what happened.
