Fire destroyed a two-story home in northern Wake County Sunday, authorities said.

Flames ripped through the house at 11016 Eaglerock Drive in Raleigh, near the Durham County line, around 2 p.m. Authorities got the fire under control around 3:30 p.m.

Windy conditions hindered firefighters and they were forced to shuttle water to the scene to fight the blaze.

"It was working its way to the adjoining property," said Bayleaf Fire Chief James Roof. "We got trucks out in the woods and kept that from extending and we were able to establish a water supply and start putting out the main body of the fire."

The family who lives there were not in the house at the time. Their pet dog escaped the fire. A neighbor rescued it from a nearby wooded area.

The family told police that there were several other pets inside the house. They have not been found, police said.

The cause of the fire is unknown. No other information was released.
