An 8-year-old is in serious condition after an argument escalated into a shootout Saturday night in Rocky Mount and several people face charges.

By the time police got to the 1100 block of West Raleigh Boulevard, a 41-year-old woman, a 24-year-old man and an 8-year-old boy had been injured. The woman and boy were shot, the man was grazed by a bullet in the exchange. All three were taken to the hospital.

Police said the man, Arkeem Shields was in his car, waiting in line at the drive-thru. An 8-year-old boy was with him in the car. 41-year-old Tiffany Vick came to the business and approached Shield’s vehicle. A shootout began after an argument.

Shield’s vehicle was hit several times, causing damage and shot the 8-year-old in the leg. Shield’s sped away from the scene to get the boy to the hospital.

Vick sustained two gunshot wounds and collapsed in the parking lot. Police said Tiffany Vick's wife, Crystal Vick, took her gun away from the crime scene prior to police arrival, obstructing the investigation.

An innocent bystander, Elliott Whitehead, was grazed by a bullet during the shootout, according to police. His vehicle was also damaged from the exchange of gunfire.

Police said an A.R. Pistol was seized from a home on Edwards Street and a 9mm pistol was seized from a home on Nelson Street. These guns are believed to be used in the shooting.

Crystal Vick was charged with felony aid and abet, resisting public officer, and misdemeanor child abuse. Vick was issued a $25,000 secured bond and remanded to Nash County Jail.

Arrest warrants were obtained for Tiffany Vick. Charges for Tiffany Vick include assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, shooting into an occupied vehicle, assault on a minor, misdemeanor child abuse, discharging a firearm in the city limits and possession of a firearm while intoxicated. She will be taken into custody once released from the hospital.

The Department of Social Services was notified of the minors involved in this case and will conduct their own separate investigation. The child abuse charges stem from Vick’s bringing minors to this confrontation, an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Rocky Mount police are looking for Shields in reference to this case. Shields has several active arrest warrants but all unrelated to this matter. The investigation is continuing.
