Edward Moore, the Cumberland County inmate who escaped Wednesday from custody after assaulting a deputy, was captured Saturday at a gas station on the intersection of Cumberland Drive at Ireland Road in Fayetteville, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Federal agents found him in a car with one other person. He had been missing and considered armed and dangerous for around 72 hours. He was arrested around 6:15 after a short standoff with authorities, Sgt. Sean Swain said.

Moore, 39, of 5007 Birch Road in Fayetteville, escaped from custody after assaulting a Cumberland County deputy at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was taking Moore to a hospital for treatment Wednesday when he assaulted the officer, stole a green Buick van and escaped. He also took a taser from the deputy. The van and taser were found later that night on Fresno Drive.

Moore was originally in custody for robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with a bank robbery.

Moore is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19.
