Fayetteville police are searching for a man wanted in connection with a shooting, police chase and crash that all happened early Friday.

Officers responded to a home at 4703 Belford Road around 12:15 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting and found a man inside with a gunshot wound. The man was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and underwent surgery. His name and condition were not released.

"My understanding is that he was shot at least twice, maybe a third time, and one of the injuries or shots was to the chest area," Fayetteville Assistant Police Chief Katherine Bryant said.

Another person inside the home told officers to look for a man and woman in a white Dodge Charger with black rims who were seen leaving the area.

Officers spotted a vehicle matching that description and tried to make a traffic stop, but the driver sped off. Officers gave chase, and the driver crashed at Black and Decker Road and Hennardland Place.

A man inside the car, Jamal McSwain, 24, ran from the scene. Police are searching for him. McSwain, of the 3400 block of Dorado Circle, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a stolen firearm.

Police detained a woman inside the car, Jayah Jordan, 22, who suffered serious injuries in the crash. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. Jordan, who lives in the 100 block of Luzon Drive in Fort Bragg, has been charged with fleeing to elude, driving while license revoked and accessory after the fact.

"The female was found on the ground," Bryant said. "It's unknown whether she was thrown from the car or whether she crawled out of the car on her own. She had significant injuries to where she was at the scene and not able to run away."

WRAL News spoke with the brother of the man who was shot, who said the victim is OK and the family wants the alleged shooter captured.
