Fayetteville native to become deputy commander at Fort Hood

A Fayetteville native with more than 30 years of military experience has been named a deputy commanding general for III Corps at Fort Hood, Texas. 

Maj. Gen. Kendall P. Cox, who graduated from Reid Ross High School in Fayetteville, will replace Maj. Gen. James Richarfson, the Army chief of staff announced Thursday. 

Cox previously serves as deputy commander for military and internal operations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Washington, D.C. 

Cox graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1979.
