Two killed in Fayetteville murder-suicide

The U.S. Army released the name Sunday evening of a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg who was shot to death in an apparent murder-suicide in Fayetteville last week.

Sgt. Catalina Ruiz, 27, of Phoenix, Ariz., was a supply sergeant with the 112th Signal Battalion.

Police believe that Warren Cummings III, 30, of the 400 block of Woodstream Trail, kidnapped Ruiz on Oct. 6 from an apartment where she had been staying on Icarus Circle.

A couple hours later, a police officer spotted the car Cummings was driving in the Woodstream apartment complex off Cliffdale Road. Cummings then saw the officer, fired shots at him and then shot and killed Ruiz and himself inside the car.

Investigators said Ruiz had a restraining order against Cummings. Their relationship was not disclosed.
