Fayetteville man's remains identified in abandoned car on Fort Bragg range

Authorities found human remains in an abandoned car on one of Fort Bragg’s ranges during a routine patrol in November.

Fort Bragg Range Control found the remains of Fayetteville man Ronald Farrell on Nov. 21 in a burned-out car next to Range 74 on a part of the road accessible to the public. Authorities immediately dispatched Fort Bragg Emergency Services. Farrell was 70.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Army said it appears the car hit an embankment and caught fire sometime during on Nov. 20.

At this point in the investigation, there are no signs of foul play, according to the Army. Farrell served in the North Carolina National Guard from 1975 to 1983.

The incident remains under investigation.
