A Fayetteville high school was under a Code Yellow lockdown on Monday after a student made a threat on social media.

Terry Sanford High School families received an automated call Sunday night after the district learned about the threat.

The following automated message was sent to families:

"Good evening, Terry Sanford High School families, this is Principal Abraham-Johnson calling with an important message. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We recently learned of an alleged social media threat regarding possible violence at our school. Upon receiving the information, we immediately notified law enforcement to investigate. While law enforcement has not confirmed that it is a credible threat, we take all threats seriously.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we will operate on Code Yellow tomorrow, Monday, January 22, and will take additional security precautions, including metal detectors, as we continue to focus on providing a safe and orderly learning environment. Additional law enforcement will be on our campus. Please note that a Code Yellow is a medium alert status used when there is a possible threat to the student body. Thank you for your continued support. Have a good evening."

Cumberland County Schools decided to place the high school under a Code Yellow lockdown Monday as a precautionary measure.

"Out of an abundance of caution, we also implemented additional security measures at the school, including the use of metal detectors, and increased the presence of law enforcement on campus today," the district said Monday.

Cumberland County Schools said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
