The father of an NFL player was killed and another person was hospitalized after a Monday night explosion at a Mooresville home near Lake Norman, Iredell County emergency officials confirmed.

Iredell County property records show the multi-million dollar home on Barber Loop belongs to Tennessee Titans cornerback Caleb Farley. His father, Robert Farley, died in the blast. Officials confirmed that Robert Farley, 61, lived at the home.

A family friend, age 25, was visiting the home at the time and taken to hospital. He will survive.

Iredell County emergency officials said Caleb Farley, 24, was not among the victims in Monday's explosion.

When the Iredell County Sheriff's Office arrived, deputies reported a heavy smell of natural gas on the property, WCNC reported. Hazmat crews were immediately called to assist with the situation.

According to Iredell County Emergency Management, one person was exiting the home when first responders arrived on the scene. That person was taken to Atrium Main in Charlotte with non-life-threatening injuries, WCNC reported. Another person, officials report, was later found dead after a search of the debris.

The massive 6,391 square-foot home is a total loss along with several vehicles, Iredell County officials said.

The Titans drafted Caleb Farley with the 22nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech.

Caleb Farley played quarterback at Maiden High School in Maiden, North Carolina. Caleb Farley was born in Maiden.
