WRAL News special: Remembering Billy Graham

The original family house of the late evangelist Rev. Billy Graham was put up for sale this week.

Graham and his late wife, Ruth Bell Graham, purchased the house in Montreat, near Asheville, in the late 1940s. The family lived in the house during the years that Graham made his name as "America's pastor."

Graham died in February 2018, and since the summer of 2019, the house has been a vacation rental on the VRBO website.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage with two levels of living space is now listed for sale at $599,000.

Graham's daughter, Ruth Graham, said that, while the home holds great memories, she needs to sell the property to pay the medical bills for her gravely ill daughter, who suffers from a rare disease creating abnormal cells on her lungs.

"While I'm sad, I'm also very grateful that I have this ability to help my daughter," Ruth Graham said. "Any parent in America would say they would move heaven and earth for the child, and that's what I want to."
