One dead, one injured in Fayetteville shooting and crash

A car shot at multiple times Tuesday night ran off the road, according to police, and a man inside the vehicle died.

Shaquille Bratcher, the passenger, was killed after investigators say the car was hit by gunfire multiple times and crashed into an embankment around 11 p.m. on South Raeford Road. The driver's condition was not provided, but bullet holes could be seen in the side of the car, a Dodge Charger.

Bratcher's mother, fighting back tears as she works to piece together what happened to her son, doesn't think this was a case of road rage.

His family says this is the third son they have lost within the past year.

"Shots rang out, bullets hit a car. The driver got hit. My son git hit. Also, my son did not survive," said Yashica Bratcher, his mother. "I just think it was done intentionally. For it to be that time of night, in the dark, I think the driver was targeted."

Bratcher's death has been hard on his father, too.

"My son, he was a good guy. He liked to have fun and make people laugh -- about like me. He had an outgoing personality. He loved being with his kids," said Michael Graham.

The investigation centers around the car with the bullet holes and possible cameras that line Raeford Road.

During the shooting, the car hit another vehicle before it went off the road. That driver was not injured.

The shooting and crash are under investigation by the Fayetteville Police Department.

South Raeford Road was closed in both directions between Pinewood Terrace and Rayconda Place.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact Detective R. Vernon 910-729-2525 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).

The shooting was not connected to another shooting in Fayetteville overnight, when a man was killed on Slater Avenue.
