On day of service, Raleigh families get week's worth of groceries

The Triangle honors civil rights icon and leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., just a couple days after what would have been his 92nd birthday.

This year many celebrations are being held virtually, and may feel different, coming on the heels of a year filled with racial injustice and tension.

Many Triangle residents are commemorating the life of King by giving back to their community.

Volunteers will be distributing boxes of food to families in need Monday morning at the Southeastern Raleigh YMCA on Rocky Quarry Road.

The drive-thru event begins at 9 a.m. and is first-come, first-serve. Families will receive 1 to 2 weeks of food when they arrive.

The YMCA is also holding a computer drive at all their local branches. Triangle residents can donate their used computers and accessories for students at Southeast Raleigh Elementary and Southeast Raleigh High School.
