An employee of Faith Christian Academy in Goldsboro was arrested on a charge of bringing a weapon onto educational property after a student found a gun that she accidentally left in the bathroom.

The school said that Carla D. McComb, 46, of Kinston, was a recent hire, and that she possessed a concealed carry license and the gun was registered.

The school sent a message to families after the incident on Jan. 22.

"A recently hired employee was carrying a concealed weapon on campus," the school said. "The weapon was mistakenly left in the restroom in the gym."

The on-campus security officer with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office secured the weapon and confronted McComb, according to the school.

"Nevertheless, it is a violation of the law and prohibited by school rules," the school said. "The employee has since been terminated."

The school said no one was hurt.

"We deeply regret this incident occurred," the school wrote in a message shared with WRAL News, "but we are thankful no one was injured, and all of our students and faculty were safe."
