Enhanced security measures will be in place Tuesday for students and staff at Broughton Magnet High School following an incident involving a student who was found with a gun off campus.
According to an email obtained by WRAL, school leaders were alerted by Raleigh Police after a tip about the weapon.

Although the gun was found off campus, some parents are questioning its exact location, the student’s intentions and whether it may have made its way onto school grounds. The student involved has faced disciplinary action.
The timing of the news followed an academic achievement ceremony held at the school Monday evening.
The email sent to Broughton families detailed the incident, reporting that the student was found with the weapon during first lunch period. Officers confirmed they located the gun among the student's belongings.
Security expert Patrick Fiel highlighted the importance of vigilance.
"If you see something [or] hear something, you have to say something," he said.
He said that reporting suspicious activity can be crucial in preventing potentially tragic incidents.
"They need to look at everything that’s out there to the best of their advantage," Fiel said. "One solution is not going to be effective."
For parents like Celeste Brogdon, speaking with her children about school safety is essential.
"You have to have those conversations with your student to say, 'This is how you keep yourself safe, and you just have to be aware,'" she said.
The Wake County Public School System uses metal detectors and clear bags for spectators at events but does not employ metal detectors during the school day.
