Explosion shakes home in Raleigh overnight, causing 'significant damage'

Firefighters are investigating an explosion that happened overnight Monday at a home on Penny Road in Raleigh.

A person who responded to the fire told WRAL News there was significant damage throughout the home. Photos showed windows blown out and debris dangling from underneath the rooftop.

Neighbors said they heard a thump. Construction workers helped board up windows on Tuesday as plywood replaced shattered glass, and blown-out window panes.

The homeowners didn’t want go to on camera, but they did say they were home when an explosion in their garage shook the neighborhood, around 11 p.m.

There were no injuries. It’s not clear who was home when it happened.

An investigation is underway.
