A private employee of an environmental company was killed after being electrocuted Wednesday at a Raleigh elementary school, state authorities confirmed to WRAL News.

Police were called to Lead Mine Elementary School, located at 8301 Old Lead Mine Road, shortly before 1 p.m., according to a report.

Dolores Quesenberry, a spokeswoman for the North Carolina Department of Labor, said the victim was an employee of Unique Environmental Energy Services, Inc.

She said the employee was working alone in a plant room when the accident happened. The employee was found by a coworker, she said.

“You don’t ever think about this happening in your area, and when it does, it’s very unsettling,” said Dawn Leonard, a neighbor.

The only people on campus at the time of the incident were school employees, according to Sarah Clark, a spokeswoman for Wake County Schools, since school is out for the summer.

The electrocution was an isolated incident and will not be a threat to students when they return to school in August, according to Wake County Schools.

The victim's identity was pending.

There were no other immediate reports of other injuries.

YMCA's Camp High Hopes is currently being held at the school, but it was moved to the Finley YMCA for the day so authorities could conduct their investigation.
