Employee of former Fremont mayor charged with embezzlement years after his death

An employee of former Fremont Mayor Floyd Anthony "Andy" Evans, who was found dead in 2018, is facing embezzlement charges in the ongoing homicide investigation.

Elizabeth Raper Fleming, 53, the former mayor's office manager, was arrested and charged with five felony counts of embezzlement, one over $100,000, and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.

An employee of former Fremont Mayor Floyd Anthony “Andy” Evans, who was found dead in 2018, is facing embezzlement charges.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office found Evans on Saturday, June 16, 2018, in a garage at one of his properties on Evans Farm Road in Fremont. Evans died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Investigators looking into the shooting suspected embezzlement of funds associated with Evans’ farming operation and opened a separate investigation.

On Tuesday, more than three years after Evans' death, Elizabeth Raper Fleming, 53, his former office manager, was arrested and charged with five felony counts of embezzlement, one over $100,000, and one count of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Fleming was issued a $175,000 secured bond and booked at the Wayne County Detention Center.

No one has been arrested in Evans' death. A reward of $35,000 will be offered for information leading to an arrest.
