ECU student charged in Bragg soldier's death

An East Carolina University student surrendered to the Pitt County magistrate Wednesday, one day after he was named a suspect in the stabbing death of an 82nd Airborne Division paratrooper, Greenville police said.

Christopher W. Brauer, 19, of Durham, was charged with murder, police said. He was being held at the Pitt County jail under a $1 million bond.

Investigators say Brauer stabbed Pfc. Keyonn Parkin, 19, of Wichita, Kan., during an altercation outside a party at the Pirate Place Townhomes, at 1508 S. Charles Blvd., early Saturday.

Brauer allegedly confronted Parkin's friend, Robert Michael Perry, also a Fort Bragg soldier, about a wallet that was taken from one of the bedrooms of the apartment. When Parkin intervened to help Perry, Brauer pulled out a knife and stabbed him, investigators said.

Perry, 19, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor larceny.
