Durham Rescue Mission serves crowds at Easter dinner and Easter basket giveaway

The Durham Rescue Mission delivered Easter baskets and a hot meal for more than 1,500 people on Friday.

Those in attendance could also enter drawings to win a 65” UHD Smart TV, three Chromebooks, a Nintendo Switch and 100 bicycles.

Every child got an Easter basket full of candy and other goodies, while families dined on a meal of barbecue and hot dogs with all the fixings.

Parents stocked up on donated clothing and groceries while kids played in bounce houses and mugged for the photo booth.

"It’s Easter time again, and the Durham Rescue Mission is here to serve the children of the Triangle who are in need," CEO/President Rev. Rob Tart said. "Families are struggling this year with inflation. The Durham Rescue Mission has seen an unprecedented demand for services this winter, with record attendance in the shelter due to high rent and an increase in people asking for benevolence, such as food and clothing.

"Many families are struggling to pay their bills. The Durham Rescue Mission wants to help these families by giving them extra cheer at Easter. Every child in attendance under the age of 12 will receive a very nice Easter basket. There will be other door prizes, such as bikes, computers, game consoles and a TV."

The event began at noon at the Mission's Men's campus at 1201 E Main St.
