Durham repairs 'major' water main break

A water main broke in Durham Tuesday afternoon, flooding neighborhoods and stifling service in the northern part of the city and some adjacent parts of Durham County, officials said.

The Durham Water Management Department expected to have service restored by late afternoon. Crews had isolated the break in the 24-inch main and were working to repair it.

Customers who do not have their water service restored by 5 p.m. should contact the Water Management Department’s after-hours emergency line at 919-560-4344.
