Dozens of shots fired in Durham neighborhood; police seek shooter

Durham police on Monday released surveillance video captured in the 800 block of Liberty Street on Jan. 18, 2024, around the time an 8-year-old girl was shot inside an upstairs bedroom.

Two clips of video, shot from different angles, show a person come into the frame and fire shots at a light-colored house. The person firing the gun is the only person in the video. That person comes into the frame, fires repeatedly and walks back in the direction they came from.

Family members told WRAL News at the time of the shooting that the girl was upstairs when the bullet came through her window.

On Monday, police said the girl was recovering from her injuries.

Seven minutes before police responded to the Liberty Street shooting, a man was shot in the leg near a shopping center the 900 block of Fayetteville Street, around 8 p.m.

The man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The scenes are only 1 mile apart, but police have not connected the two shootings.
