Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Monday evening in northern Durham.

Officers were dispatched to a shooting call just after 7 p.m. at Two Brothers convenience store at 3310 Dearborn Drive. Upon arrival, officers found a man who had been shot inside a car in the parking lot, said Kammie Michael, a police department spokeswoman.

Paramedics transported the victim, later identified as 21-year-old Marko D. Thornton, of Butner, to Duke University Hospital for treatment.  He was pronounced dead a short time later, Michael said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 919-560-4440 or Crime Stoppers at 683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.
