Durham police are investigating a bank robbery that occurred Friday evening at Cardinal State Bank, 5309 Highgate Drive.

A man armed with a gun entered the bank shortly before 6 p.m. and demanded money, police said. He then forced several tellers into a vault and demanded more money.

The man fled in a very clean silver car, possibly a newer model Nissan Altima, police said. He took an undisclosed amount of money.

Authorities said the suspect is a white male, 6 feet tall with a beard and mustache. He was dressed in black clothing.

Two tellers were slightly injured when they ran out the back door of the bank into the woods. They were treated at the scene, officials said.

They asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 683-1200, the District 3 substation at 560-4583, the FBI at 233-7701 or 704-377-9200, or the N.C. Bankers’ Association hot line at 800-209-2293.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward, and the North Carolina Bankers’ Association is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.
